"At Harvard University, I was encouraged to ask a lot of questions because from there I was able to improve myself and be equal with other students."

"On the whole, the students were very proactive and I admired them greatly especially when discussing their research works," said Wan Mohd. Hafiz Wan Razali."

Wan Hafiz was the only Bachelor Degree student in medicine and surgery (MBBS) at University Technology MARA (UiTM) who was offered to do a research programme at Brigham & Women's Hospital in the School of Medicine Harvard University in the United States.

His research project was about genetics on lysine demethylase specific-1 (LSD) in salt sensitivity hypertension.

Hafiz said, at Harvard University he had to attend classes and sat for several examinations to ensure that he would be able to carry out his research project effectively.

"Even though the questions were really tough, I believed that when there's a will there is a way. If you do not want to do something you would always find thousands of excuses. Thank God, I passed the exams," Hafiz told Utusan Malaysia.

He said, while in Harvard he had the opportunity to attend classes and conferences at the School of Business Studies Harvard and School of Public Health to broaden his knowledge.

"Opportunity knocks but once and due to that I took as many opportunities as possible to make my stay in the United States really worth what MARA had invested in me," Hafiz who is now working at the Hospital Sungai Buloh.

To show his gratitude to MARA for sponsoring his education right up to UiTM, Hafiz is now actively involved in the MRSM Alumni and he is the MRSM Kuala Krai Alumnai Association.
